What does it mean that Jesus is the Judge?

Brethren, it is interesting to know that the Man who was rejected by many, and was crucified on the cross of calvary two thousand years ago, the same has been ordained by God to be the Judge both of the living and the dead. Jesus is designated as the ultimate sovereign judge, who will judge believers and unbelievers alike. Let us look at some of the scriptures which speaks of Jesus as the Judge

"For not even the Father judges anyone, but He has given all judgment to the Son"-- John 5; 22

"And He ordered us to preach to the people, and solemnly to testify that this is the One who has been appointed by God as Judge of the living and the dead"-- Acts 10; 42

''Therefore having overlooked the times of ignorance, God is now declaring to men that all people everywhere should repent, because He has fixed a day in which He will judge the world in righteousness through a Man whom He has appointed, having furnished proof to all men by raising Him from the dead"-- Acts 10; 3031

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith; in the future there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who have loved His appearing"-- 2 Timothy 4; 7-8

He will Judge believers

All believers will be judged by Jesus, but he will not judge us in the sense of issuing out a sentence of condemnation against us, why? Because he has already paid for the eternal punishment for the sins of our entire lives. On the cross, he stood as our substitute and suffered in our stead and room, his death was vicarious. Therefore, in him we shall never be brought to condemnation, for we have passed on from death to life, see (Romans 8; 1, 1 John 3; 14).

All believers will stand before the judgement seat of Christ, popularly known as the bema seat of Christ and he will judge us according to our deeds, see (2 Corinthians 5; 10). We will be judged based on how holily and faithfully we served the Lord Christ. The works we did after salvation will pass through the fire, if it remains we shall receive our reward, but if it burns up, we shall lose it, see (1 Corinthians 3; 13-15)

There are some who will receive great rewards in heaven, whereas others shall lose their reward, but they themselves shall nevertheless be saved. But until then, we must strive to live well, if we live, let us live for the Lord and if we die, we die for the Lord, so whether we live or die, we belong solely to the Lord.

He shall Judge the unbelievers as well

It's quite unfortunate that in modern times, we have so many corrupt judges who perverts justice for their selfish interest. But Jesus is unlike those corrupt judges, he is a righteous judge who will mete out righteous judgement, without showing favoritism or partiality.

With respect to the unbelievers, he will judge them severely for their wicked deeds, and for neglecting so great a salvation which was preached unto them. They did not suffer Christ to be their sin bearer, but chose to pay the eternal consequences of their sins on their own. Jesus will justly condemn the unbelievers on account of their many sins, and for rejecting him as the only way of salvation. The One whom they despised and willfully rejected will be the same person to judge them and will cast them into the eternal lake of fire.

In the book of Revelation, it is written: Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat upon it, from whose presence earth and heaven fled away, and no place was found for them. And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged from the things which were written in the books, according to their deeds. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead which were in them; and they were judged, every one of them according to their deeds. Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire"-- Revelation 20; 11-15

Peradventure, if you are reading this article and you have no personal relationship with Jesus Christ, I beseech you to be at peace with him now, lest you will one day face him as a severe judge. You cannot stand his wrath, so reconcile with him now, by exercising faith in him for salvation (John 3; 16). Do not harden your heart, believe in him now, for there is no chance for salvation after death. God bless you

A thought to ponder 🤔
